For a complete list of veteran contacts at Michigan universities and colleges visit the Consortium of Michigan Veterans Educators web site.  A contact name at each institution is provided that will assist you with accessing and certifying your enrollment for VA education purposes.

The VA education program is headquartered at the St. Louis Regional Office.  They can be contacted at (888) 442-4551.

The US Department of Veteran Affairs has several educations programs that are available to eligible veterans and their dependents.  These programs include:

Post 9/11 GI Bill - offers higher education and training benefits to veterans, service members, and their families who served after September 10, 2001.               

Montgomery GI Bill (Active Duty & Reserve) - assists active duty and Reservists with the pursuit of higher education degrees, certificates, and other education and training.

Reserve Education Assistance Program - provides educational assistance to members of the Reserve components called or ordered to active duty in response to a war or nation emergency declared by the president or Congress. 

Veterans Educational Assistance Program - is available if you elected to make contributions from your military pay to participate in the education program.  The government matches your contributions on a 2-for-1 basis. 

Survivors and Dependents Educational Assistance Program - offers education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition or of veterans who died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related condition. 

Educational Assistance Pilot Program - Advancing your education often requires you to take costly national tests.  You may be eligible for reimbursement from the VA.  

National Call to Service Program - is a benefit provided to those who perform a period of national service.  It is a Department of Defense program administered by VA.

Each program has its own eligibility criteria and time limits.

Veterans utilizing the Post 9/11 GI Bill can access the GI Bill comparison tool to calculate the amount of their benefit and research approved programs.  Applications for education benefits can be done online through the Veterans On-Line Application.  You will want to contact the certifying official at your school to complete the enrollment process so that you can start receiving your monthly benefit.
